April fools! They haven’t really, but Kia has just released plans for their assault on European hot hatches.
Management at Kia confirmed that a high performance Kia model is in the pipeline. The overseas marketing director said: “We are preparing turbocharged engines, tuning suspension and we are preparing a Golf GTI rival.”
The supped up Kia will be based on the next-gen Kia Cee’d three-door model. The styling will be influenced by the Koup concept which is a two-door fast back which was first seen at the New York show in 2008.
The five door Kia Cee’d is four years old next spring and is coming up for replacement, but you can still find plenty of used Kia Cee’d in London if that’s what you’re looking for, although it may be in the autumn before you see the three door version.
The Cee’d GTI will be powered by the latest 2litre turbocharged Theta 2 engine produced by Kia.
Kia sees the year 2012 when they start to deliver sportier models and deliver better driving dynamics to assist its design department in making their cars different from Hyundai.
Kia has already confirmed that they do not pan on building any cars that will make a loss, and they will make every car affordable, especially in this climate.
