
The Sunderland plant, which is home to the Nissan Qashqais crossover, will soon begin to manufacturer the impressive Nissan Leaf. The Nissan plant is the first to produce more than 400,000 vehicles in one year, according to new research published by automotive guru Professor Garel Rhys.
In his report, Superlatives in UK Car Production, Professor Rhys describes the Sunderland plant’s production output as “remarkable” and attributes it to the exceptional productivity due to extremely efficient work practices. Professor Rhys commented “its performance during the recession has lessons for all car manufacturers”

Leader of Sunderland Council, Paul Watson said “We are immensely proud of the progress and performance of the Nissan plant and its outstanding workforce over the last five years.”
Over a million Nissan Qashqais have rolled out of the Sunderland plant since starting production in 2006, making it one of the most successful British built cars ever.
