Late next year Ford are releasing an 180bhp Ford Fiesta ST that will go up against the Renaultsport Clio 200 and the Seat Cupra.
The hot Fiesta will be a road going version spin-off from the S2000 rally car and WRC programme which has switched to the Fiesta this year.
The Fiesta ST has been in the drawing boards for many years and they have been waiting for the right time to justify its development.
The ST will be powered by a 1.6 litre Ecoboost Turbo engine, the basic unit that powers the four-wheel drive Fiesta WRC car.
The ST will use a 180bhp version of the Ecoboost that will be hooked up to a six speed manual gearbox, although the ratios may be changed slightly to give a sportier drive.
Ford hasn’t released performance figured yet but the Renaultsport Clio hits 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds and tops out at 141mph and it has 20bhp on the Fiesta ST.
When this hot hatch is released, Gates.co.uk will hopefully have these new Ford Fiesta ST in stock!
No indications on pricing for the Fiesta ST as of yet, but expect it to come in at £16,500, £300 less than the Clio Cup.
