Toyota aims for lower emission cars


Toyota are planning to start production of cars that produce low emissions in China as it looks to tap into the world’s largest car market, also the world’s biggest polluter.

The president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda said that the company is keen to introduce the latest technologies into the Chinese market.

As the Chinese government looks for ways to cut down on emission levels, car manufacturers are gearing up to supply the growing demand for greener cars.

Takanobu Ito, Honda Motors chief executive said on Tuesday that the company plan on introducing a test fleet of electric vehicles to the Chinese market later this see.  This will show us what the market wants.

Joe Hinrichs, chief executive of Ford China said "With China aiming to go green on the road with new-energy vehicles, the country is the perfect platform to showcase Ford's advanced technologies in the electrification plan.”

The push for greener vehicles is not coming from the car makers alone, but also from makers of domestic products.

Geely Autos and Donfeng Motor Group plan to start productions of hybrid cars by the end of 2012.
Donfeng has set a target of selling 100,000 electric cars by 2015.
