Saab PhoeniX - Stunning!

I was just browsing the latest news and came across this post from AutoExpress. I couldn't help buy post this on here because the new Saab PhoeniX is simply stunning. Enjoy the read!

The future is looking bright for Saab. In the boldest statement yet of its new-found confidence, the Swedish giant took the wraps off this stunning sports car concept at the Geneva Motor Show.

It’s called the PhoeniX, and is the first Saab model to be penned from scratch by chief stylist Jason Castriota – and its supercar looks won’t be confined to the concept. “The design showcases Jason’s vision for the brand, and elements of the new 9-3,” said a spokesman for the firm.

Under the skin is a new modular architecture, which can be adapted to underpin a variety of forthcoming models, including a new sports car. “It’s definitely on our wish list of things we’d like to do,” added the spokesman.

The PhoeniX uses a four-wheel-drive hybrid set-up with an electric motor driving the rear wheels and a 197bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine sending power to the front. Saab claims that the result is a 0-62mph sprint time of 5.9 seconds, yet the car emits only 119g/km of CO2 and returns 56.5mpg economy.

And just as the styling points to future models, so does the drivetrain – it’s set to appear in the next-generation Saab line-up.

Inside, the firm’s IQon infotainment system debuts. This runs on Google’s Android operating system and connects wirelessly to the Internet to give drivers access to online audio and navigation data. Saab will also allow programmers access to 500 sensors around the car to create apps that monitor informantion such as monthly fuel consumption.
