Top five used 4x4 vehicles

If you are looking to buy a 4x4 vehicle but can’t afford to buy a new vehicle, here’s a list of top five used 4x4s on the market, as rated by an online motoring magazine.
Top of the picks is not unsurprisingly a Land Rover, the Land Rover Discovery 4x4.

Although it’s expensive to fuel and service its superb on- and off-road abilities makes it a firm favourite. It comes in a variety of sizes but if overall cost is of an issue avoid the thirsty V8 engines and opt for a TDV6 S/SE. If you fancy test driving a used Land Rover, Glasgow has several dealers you can contact.

Runner up is the Nissan X-Trail which is rated as a competent vehicle both off and on the road. It’s also spacious and well built. But opt for a diesel engine instead of the petrol version which apparently doesn’t feel like it’s got enough pulling power.

Third on the list of top five used 4x4 is the Hyundai Santa Fe 4x4 which gets a nod for its space and quality and relatively low buying and running cost. However, the car might be difficult to come by as there aren’t that many of them on the market.
The Lexus RX 4x4 is easier to come by but being a luxury car it’s also expensive to buy and run and might not be an option if you’re looking for a cheaper used car. The Lexus is both spacious and refined and can also be bought in a hybrid version if you’re looking for a green alternative.

Number five on the list of the top five used 4x4s is the Honda CR-V which is described as a great all-round SUV that will suit most families.
So if you’re in the market for a used 4x4 there should be something out there in a wide price range and a wide selection of engine sizes.
