Used KIA

Who do you think the most searched-for car manufacturer was in the UK during June 2011? Ford? Nope. Volkswagen? Keep Trying. Vauxhall? Thanks for coming, and we have a lovely parting gift.

The answer, according to one prominent second-hand car website, was Kia. That’s right, Kia – the Korean maker of budget-friendly cars that frequently over-deliver on expectations. The result is said to be mirrored in a rise in Google’s reports, which have demonstrated a rise in Kia-related traffic over the past 12 months. The UK has not traditionally been one of Kia’s main markets, but it seems that that could be changing.

Kia has been well-placed to capitalise on the recent global economic pressures, which have placed a premium upon value for money and practicality. Its flagships are the Rio hatchback and the award-winning Kia Sportage SUV. The latter in particular has been lauded for offering for an SUV at its price point, including high-quality detailing, a decent build quality, a choice of engine options and an appealing ‘four-wheel-drive on demand’ system that allows the car to flick between front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive whenever any lack of traction is detected at the rear.

It’s also quite spacious inside, with the added bonus that the seats fold completely flat without the need to take the headrests off first. The entry level models still come equipped with features including aircon, 16-inch alloys, electric windows and a CD system with an MP3 player, and you can add a sunroof, front seat warmers, climate and cruise control and heated door mirrors, as well as other goodies, for the more upscale versions.

Specialist dealer AutoPlanet is a good starting point for anyone considering joining the growing ranks of Brits who think that the one thing their garage needs is a nice used Kia Kent
