Honda’s new MUGEN CR-Z is so hot, if you you’re not careful it will burn your face off just looking at it!
Honda confirmed that the tuned CR-Z will be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of speed in July.
The MUGEN will be powered by a 1.5 Litre petrol engine, like the standard model but boosted by Honda’s hybrid system, but the power to the engine will be increased thanks to improvements on the induction kit, ECU and exhaust. Also, the power of the hybrid motor will be significantly increased.
The performance stats are unknown at the moment because Honda doesn’t have them, but they are claiming it will offer the same type of performance as the Type-R.
Previous models of the Civic CR-Z hit 0-60mph in 9.8 seconds and reached the top speed of 124mph which develops 112bhp from its hybrid power-plant. Honda say that the new MUGEN CR-Z will provide better fuel economy while delivering extra power.
MUGEN alloys will be added to make the car more lightweight, while the brakes have been uprated as well as the suspension to deliver better handling, also some other components of the car will be lightweight and a carbon fiber bonnet will be fitted to lighten the load.
The Honda CR-Z will come complete with the MUGEN bodykit which features larger side sills, deeper bumper, rear diffuser and a rear wing.
The MUGEN is being developed in the UK, by Northampton based MUGEN Euro, which is a subsidiary of Honda. For now it’s strictly a one off car, but a small production run is likely.

The marketing boss of Honda UK said: “This will be one quick hybrid… with more torque, more power and MUGEN’s experience of working with Honda cars, we’re expecting great things. It promises to show how hybrid cars can be even more exciting to drive.”
