Japan has now started the huge recovery operation after they experienced a magnitude 9 earthquake on the 11th March 2011. The earthquake triggered a large tsunami and the loss to human life has been great. For many Japanese people this is a difficult time. However, they are dealing with their pain and sorrow with dignity and practicality.
For many, their lives have been changed forever. Their homes have been completely destroyed and they are sleeping in local gyms or community centres. Resources are being rationed.
The earthquake occurred in the north of the country and aftershocks were still being felt days later. In addition to the earthquake, Japan also feared a meltdown of its nuclear plant in a town named Fukushima. This caused panic amongst residents as far away as Tokyo and many people started to leave Japan.
Japan’s economy will also be hit hard. Japan is a leading player in the automotive industry and is home to manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Subaru. None of the large manufacturers were located in the area however the disaster has affected many of their suppliers.
Many of the manufacturers have temporarily stopped their operation due to power shortages and to allow its workers to come to terms with the loss of loved ones. In the coming weeks shoppers may find a shortage of some Japanese vehicles. However as Daihatsu Servicing Kent cars are one of Japan’s chief exports, the country will be keen to get back to business as normal, as soon as possible.
