Huge loss for Carcraft

Carcraft will be closing their 12-acre site at Wednesbury, West Midlands because the landlord has decided to redevelop with 200 houses.

Carcraft hopes to move to another site in Sandwell, which is still in the Black Country.  They hope the new dealership will be more visible from the M6.

The documents that have been submitted by GVA Grimley with the redevelopment plans show that growing popularity of the internet has hit trade as fewer customers are travelling to car supermarkets as they simply browse and do price comparisons online.

Large car supermarkets are now switching to multi-locations which are smaller so they can target specific areas to attract more buyers the proposals say.

Stebbings used car supermarket Peterborough has gone from strength to strength, utlising the internet rather than seeing it as a bad thing.

Carcraft is the second most popular automotive website in the Experian Hitwise Top 10 Awards.

Carcraft is about to launch an iPhone app, and launched a mobile friendly website about 6 months ago.   Stebbings used car supermarket has had a mobile website for some time now, maybe that’s why they are growing as they put their customers wants and needs first.
