Ikea will have electric charging points

Flat pack furniture giant, Ikea has joined forces with a number of retail companies to install electric car charging points at their stores in the US.  Walgreens plan on adding 800 charging points while Cracker Barrel and Best Buy are doing the same.

We are unsure if Ikea will be installing these charging points in any of their stores in Europe, but if not, you can always visit your local used cars Newmarket showroom to see what they have in stock.

Ikea will be partnering with an independent charging point installer, in this case ECOtality Inc, which will be installing the Blink EV charging system across 10 different cities in the states.

The program could possibly be completed by the end of fall, and will include Ikea stores in the Western states, from Oregon to Texas.  Each store will have at least two charging points with the larger stores having more.

ECOtality is working with Blink EV on collecting data from a program involving electric car charging points called the EV Project.

The idea is to collect and evaluate data about the electric car consumption in carrying conditions and states so they can be better prepared for when electric cars become more popular.  Researches are hoping to install 14,000 charging points across the country like the ones that will be installed at Ikea stores.
